From Shadow AI to Sanctioned AI: Enabling federal AI innovation

Artificial Intelligence (AI) adoption is accelerating across federal agencies, but unsanctioned use can expose sensitive data and expand risk. To keep innovation moving safely, agencies need clear pathways that guide teams to approved tools and apply guardrails in real time.

MeriTalk recently sat down with Anish Patel, director of federal sales at Cloudflare, to discuss how agencies can move from shadow AI to sanctioned AI by strengthening visibility, protecting sensitive data, and securing AI apps and agents.

In this three-part series, ICF experts share how agencies can turn AI’s promise into measurable impact. They’ll explore what it takes to scale AI effectively — flexible, open architectures that integrate with existing systems, human-in-the-loop design that ensures responsible oversight, and accelerators that shorten time to value.

Guardians of Government, Vol. 2: Fortifying the cyber-physical frontier

MeriTalk, in partnership with Claroty, surveyed 100 OT/CPS security administrators and managers across federal civilian and DOD agencies. Building on the 2024 Guardians of Government study, this report offers a sharper, year-over-year lens into federal CPS resilience.

Download the report to explore how agencies are securing CPS environments, budgeting for modernization, and adapting strategies to outpace adversaries. You’ll also learn how zero trust for OT is shaping federal defenses – and what’s changed since last year’s benchmark study.

Over the last year, the cybersecurity landscape changed drastically, and the government is working hard to remedy vulnerability gaps and equip organizations with the necessary skills and tools to better protect networks from bad actors. To make real progress, the public and private sector must join forces, tapping the “human side” of cybersecurity: the people, technology implementation, and policy development. Listen to all episodes from The Human Side of Cyber series from Tanium on MeriTalk or your favorite podcast platform.
